There are certain health problems that specifically affect women at different times in their lives where specialist physiotherapy can help.Bladder ‘weakness’ and incontinence can affect women at different stages in their lives. Physiotherapy is recommended as the first treatment option for most people experiencing incontinence or bladder problems. (NICE).Physiotherapy focuses on eliminating the symptoms of incontinence, urinary urgency, over active bladder and improving the quality of life of women. This is done through the correct education of pelvic floor muscle training, breathing coordination and advice on fluid intake, bowel control and exercise programmes.
Lisa Few is a Chartered State Registered Physiotherapist with a special interest in women’s health. She graduated from St. George’s Medical School in 2005 and has worked both in the NHS and privately, specialising in ante and post natal musculo-skeletal conditions and women’s health. Her post graduate training has focused on urogynaecology and treatment for conditions such as incontinence, prolapse, pelvic floor dysfunction and pelvic pain. She also has post graduate qualifications in acupuncture and pilates.
